The first chapter of Carlos Dews’s novel-in-progress has been accepted for publication in Nuovi Argomenti, the prestigious Italian literary journal founded by Alberto Moravia and Alberto Carrocci in 1953. The journal is currently under the direction of the Italian novelist Dacia Maraini. The excerpt, titled ”Sarah 1903,” from Dews’s as-yet-untitled novel will appear in an issue of Nuovi Argomenti in the spring or summer of 2011. Dews said “It is an honor to have a chapter from my novel published by a journal with such a rich cultural history.” Professor Dews is the chairperson of the Department of English Language and Literature at John Cabot University and the director of the Institute for Creative Writing and Literary Translation.

John Cabot University Professor of English, Dr. Carlos Dews, has been invited to deliver a lecture at a conference being held at the Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians at Columbus State University in Carson McCullers hometown of Columbus, Georgia.

The conference is in celebration of what would have been Carson McCullers 94th Birthday and will be held in February 2011. Dews served as the founding director of the McCullers Center from 2002-2004. The official name of the conference is Carson McCullers: An Interdisciplinary Conference and 94th Birthday Celebration and is described by Cathy Fussell, the McCullers Center's current director, as "the first conference dedicated exclusively to Carson McCullers since Columbus College (Columbus, Georgia) sponsored Reflections on Carson McCullers in 1987."

Dews was very pleased by the invitation and said "I am humbled by the invitation to deliver a lecture at the McCullers Conference. I served as the Founding Director for the McCullers Center and being asked to return to deliver a lecture at a conference sponsored by the Center is touching. I look forward to reuniting with the friends I made when I was at the Center and to seeing how the Center has continued to develop since I was last there."
